Arabic Calligraphy Compositions

When should you use calligraphy instead of plain type?
When the phrase is short and everybody is writing it. Wordings like Eid Mubarak and Ramadan Kareem are shared by everyone, so the lettering is the only thing separating your design from everything else arriving that day.

What can you design?

  • Eid and Ramadan calligraphy

  • Personal names as compositions

  • Congratulation and blessing phrases

  • Wall pieces for printing

  • Calligraphy on transparent PNG

  • Headlines for posts and stories

Which script should you choose?
Thuluth for short, imposing phrases, Diwani for congratulations and invitations, and Ruqah for quick, plainly readable text. Type your phrase, then switch between them and keep whichever suits the occasion.

الأسئلة الشائعة

What is Arabic calligraphy art and when is it used?
A short phrase set in Arabic script as a visual element in its own right rather than as ordinary text. It appears on Eid greeting cards, occasion banners, prints to hang, phone wallpapers and gift wrapping. The most common phrases wish a happy Eid or a good year ahead. Andalusi has ready calligraphy pieces whose text and colour you can edit.
Which Arabic script should I choose for a calligraphy piece?
Thuluth for short celebratory phrases, for its grandeur; Diwani for soft curving lines; Kufi for modern geometric work; and Farsi for a poetic character. Naskh is a reading face rather than a calligraphy one. Never mix two scripts in a single piece. Andalusi's library carries all these families.
How do I place calligraphy within a design?
Make it the only large element and leave at least a third of the space empty around it, since that emptiness is what gives the script its weight. Place it centred or on the upper third rather than in a corner, and put no ornament over it and no competing text beneath. Andalusi's templates are built on that principle.
How do I export calligraphy for print?
Choose a high resolution, since Arabic letterforms are thin at the joins and those are the first strokes to break when enlarged, and keep a version on a transparent background so it sits on any colour. For a framed print, leave a margin around the piece that the frame will not eat into. Andalusi exports at both screen and print sizes.
